So, should I get this clear coating on my new Mustang? Any pros and cons?

It protects your paint job and lasts five years (I can't remember what it's called). You can only use water to wash it and it costs like $700.

Sounds like a 5 year wax...i would not waist your money.

Go with a high quality wax that is " clear coat safe" . Use properly and regular intervals according to Mfgr. Instructions.

A lot of us on here use Zaino or McGuiar's. It seems - at least in my case - there is less minor rock chips and scratches with it than without. And it will fight against fading paint.

Sharing the road with a million other cars makes some inevitable - i have already had the Show car in twice in a year for touch up --- when Ford does it - it looks like new after, and it costs less than the 700.00 clear thing they are talking about. The normal charge is 240.00 per section - meaning a blended area -- they touch up the damage with the Factory Paint and color sand and buff and re-apply clear after.

Driving habits can stop some - like avoid following too close to Transport Trucks on the hi - way -- or backing off on the speed momentarily from the " beat up work pick up truck" that pass you on the street.

Appreciate all the feedback. No matter what they say at the dealership, I'm not gonna drop $700 :2pennies: on something unless it gets absolutely rave reviews from large numbers of people! :perfect10 So, I'm washing it and waxing it myself! :stang2:

i believe she was talking about Ming. it used to be real big in the 80's, and they are still around. its a polishing that "closes the pores" on your paint.

Well it's not clear to me what "protection" you are talking about.
However...I did get my car Minged when it was new in 97. Cost about $190 at that time. Was really pleased with the results. Just can't use regular wax on it, not even the car wash spray on wax, but really don't need to.

I do now use Zaino polish and it really brings out the shine.
Still better than when new off the showroom.
