View Full Version : Project AGENT ORANGE--My 2004 Cobra Build Thread
PRESENT TIME
I am dubbing my Cobra build up over the next couple of years: Project AGENT ORANGE--deadly just like the chemical.
For those that don't know, I have a 2004 Competition Orange Cobra. It has 19K original miles. Currently, it is sitting in storage in California. I has been there a little more than 4 years. It currently has 17K original miles. Car has already dynoed near 500HP to the rear wheels in the humid Hawaii heat with a conservative tune. I will be putting a 2.9 Whipple Supercharger on it come July this year. All things things I have purchased to date are to support this build.
A few facts on the Competition Orange Cobra. Only 281 coupes and 72 convertibles were made in this color making it the rarest color in 2004 and second rarest cobra color ever.
I have the following Modifications:
ENGINE
DiabloSport Predator Custom Tuned by Coastal Dyno
2.93 Upper Pulley
MotoBlu Idler
Accufab Single Blade Throttle Body and Intake Plenum (Polished)
Apten Stage I Ported Eaton Supercharger (Intake Plenum Port-Matched)

FUTURE
I am now ordering my parts while I am currently stationed in Japan. I am having the parts shipped to my Father in Colorado. My plan is to have everything bought and paid for after I am finished with my tour here in Japan. The car will sport the a 2.9 Whipple Supercharger system. My goal is to have a high 10 second daily driver. Since the car will probably spend more time at car shows and cruises, I want to have a show car as well. So over the next year and a half I will be purchasing parts to make it stand out (exterior and interior) and parts for the motor/drive train build up to reach my goal of near 700 HP to the rear wheels.
So this thread is to document my purchases over the next year and a half. Here are some of the things I have purchased so far:
Hey, something unique. Its done up in leather just like the original shift knob.
http://www.unitedstangs.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=467&pictureid=4329
Got the custom made caliper covers from BangaStang. It was the first cobra and first competition orange caliper covers to come off their assembly line. I think they came out real nice:
http://www.unitedstangs.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=467&pictureid=4328
Got the chrome black mirror "Cobra" inserts for the bumper. Also, the Terminator Cobra trunk mat was special ordered as well:

Need some high performance spark! Got these as well from US BA Performance Sponsor:

Got to strengthen up the rear end! Got this piece of art from our sponsor Fore Precision Works. This billet aluminum IRS Differential Cover weighs in at 15 pounds and almost bullet proof. It started at as 55 pounds of aluminum before sculptured into this fine piece of work:

Congrats on the fuel system Marc!!! I am sure you will like it!!!
Going to order something this week for the cobra...stay tuned. Not a exciting mod, but something I definitely need for this upgrade in HP. :marc:
I just purchased this Maximum MotorSports Polyurethane Mount/Bushings. Steve at CJ Pony Parts gave me a great deal. Hopefully this kit will eliminate some of that nasty wheel hop that high HP cars get. I am only putting the best products on my 04 cobra.
Here is the kit:

where did you get that shift knob ?? hilarious!
They sell them on SVTP. Do a search. I got it of a guy who did some kind of group sale.
It is just like the stock leather shift knob but with a different plate...obviously.

Who is going to tune the car and what type of fuel are you going to use? 91,93, e85?
I am not sure on the tune just yet, depends on where I head to state-side, but it will be a reputable tuner, that is for sure. I plan on having a few tunes loaded, 91, 93, and race gas.

The only thing I would add is a SCT PRP Package it would come in very handy in the future to have for making small changes. As well as a very useful tool for problem solving if problems arise and if you end up haveing your cobra email tuned your can see what changes are being made and how they effects the tune.
Thanks for the advice. :marc:
Since my vision sucks at night, picked up the HID 10000K Headlight upgrade kit from one of our sponsors--Autobadges. Here is what they look like on a mustang:

Mike, the FORE FUEL Rails for the Mammoth system have to be ground down to fit under the blower. There is a place that sells them for about $300.00. I will see...

Fathers Day is Sunday.
My Birthday is 2 weeks away.
Wife has give me the green light to choose cobra parts and just send her the bill. :marc:
I am looking at a few things right now. Can't go too overboard, but I am sure I can figure out something to buy. :)

I found a set of used stock 2004 Cobra Valve Covers. I am going to have them shipped directly to a guy I know that is going to do a custom job on them. When they are complete, I will put up pictures. These are going to look killer. :marc: I already have Darren working on some custom painted Chrome Coil Covers. When these are done I will put up pictures of them as well. They will look awesome sitting on my custom valve covers. :marc:
Birthday is coming up soon. Inquiring about some custom milled down polished Fore Precision Fuel Rails (supports up to 1000HP) from Johnny Lightning Performance. These will be the fuel rails I will need to clear the MONSTER 2.8 Kenne Bell Mammoth Supercharger. :marc:
Purchased the valve covers today. They are on the their way to have the custom work done to them. Stay tuned for pictures in 2-3 weeks. :)
Valve covers arrived at paint shop--can't wait to see finished product. :marc:

Got these today from my lovely wife for my upcoming birthday. Thank you Honey! :marc: . They are special Fore Precision Works fuel rails that are made by Johnny Lightning Performance specifically for the 2.8 Kenne Bell Mammoth Supercharger.
This completes my fuel system! :marc:
Got something coming in from AutoTrix (our newest sponsor)...stay tuned.
And I think I have decided which subframe connectors I am going to get real soon as well. :marc:
NIIIIIIIICE Marc! I bet your gettin anxious to get back to the car!
Anxious is a understatement. Haven't seen the cobra in more than 3 years.
I know its a small purchase, but I wanted to spend some money on the cobra today and was cruising Ebay and came across this Summit Racing Driveshaft Loop. What I liked about this one is that it is powder coated "black" so it won't rust.

Marc, Dont you have a way to have the Cobra picked up by someone you trust n taken to a shop to have all the work done before you get back?
I could. But, I just don't know where I will be stationed next.
Well, you could have it done where your dad lives cant you?
I am getting everything done at once, to include the blower install. So, whatever shop I pick to do the work, I am dropping off the cobra and every single part you see in this list to be installed. :marc:

I won't purchase it until late this year or early next year. I want it to be my last mod as technology changes all the time and something better might come out. Just today I found out they come liquid cooled and now they have them.
Well, newer isnt always better... Just look at Camaro's hahaha
Well I ordered this "SVT" Stencil. This will give you a hint on my next purchase this week. :marc:

So, I took that off my list to purchase--$300 can go elsewhere for parts I still need. :marc:Marc, I had to switch to a set of Fore Fuel rails, when i put the 2.8 KB mamoth kit the stock fuel rails could not keep up, do yourself a favor, as my tuner says, you can never have enough fuel, better safe than sorry.

6.4L's with a tuner can run 12's, slap on a decent shot of NOS and run 11's, do a little more and you're in the 10's!
Looks like our sponsor Lethal Performance will be getting in the PFAB Radiator Expansion Tanks and Supercharger Tanks. If so, I will be purchasing these and then having them to shipped to our other sponsor "Mirror Finish Polishing" to have some work done on them.
Stay tuned...
I got the Fore Precision Works Heat Extractor Events. THe CNC machined hood vents replace the inexpensive OEM plastic vent inserts for a more aggressive and elegant hood appearance. They also allow better cooling of the motor. I will especially need these once I do the 2.8KB Mammoth Upgrade.

wher did you get this?
Mike, there is a thread on SVTP in the Terminator Parts for Sale forum. :marc: I think it was $30.00.
Well I found a Vendor who is offering a 10% off their entire stock. They carry the clutch I am looking for. I asked for a quote...we will see if they can give me a good deal or not. I wasn't planning on purchasing a clutch until next year, but if I can get a helluva deal, then I will pull the trigger.
Well I purchased ANOTHER set of full length Subframe Connectors. These are the "Mercedes" of subframe connectors. They are full length subframe connectors and made by a company called "Hans RaceCraft Engineering". I will now sell my other set when I get back. These put my previous set to shame concerning quality. Here they are.

Ruben, DO IT!!!!! :lmao:
I tried to get the wife a comp orange vert and she wasn't doing it. How cool would it be to pull up to cruise, car show, etc...with a CO Coupe and Vert? :marc:
I sent a email to one of our vendors here asking for a estimate on my future clutch set-up. Hopefully I have a quote tomorow. :elvie: I would really like to pull the trigger on a clutch before the end of the year. That would be my early Christmas present. :)

i kinda skimed thru your thread so if you already answered this sorry. Who are you goin gto have tune the car? is 700 on pump gas? if so who told you that?
On 93 Octane I will not get 700HP...of course. I will have a race tune and a DD tune. Don't know who will tune the car just yet as I need to figure out where I am going.
how much boost do you plan to see?
I am not sure, but for 700HP, I would think around 20 pounds of boost (depending on tune). That is about stretching the limits of the stock block. But, there have been people on SVTP that have put out as much as 750HP on the new 2.8KB LC Mammoth blower...and don't have half the mods I do, just the blower itself and 60lb injectors. But, of course, daily driver I won't be running full boost.
Do you plan on Bigger tires?
Or course bigger tires...not sure on size just yet. And I thought the brace might not fit, but I got it in a trade and can either sell it or trade it for parts.

Ford Racing Breather Cap
http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q55/MarcInHawaii/FordRacingBreatherCap.jpg
Purchased some more suspension parts. This stuff will go good with the other suspension parts I have already purchased.
Steeda x2 Ball Joints
http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q55/MarcInHawaii/SteedaX2BallJoints.jpg
Designed For Optimum Handling. Steeda's X2 Ball Joint will greatly improve the suspension geometry on your lowered Mustang by raising the spindle relative to the pivot-point of the ball joint. This raises the roll center back into the correct range, resulting in reduced body roll, quicker steering response and improved overall front tire grip.
Tested In Extreme Conditions. The X2 ball joints are made in the USA to Steeda's strict specifications by a respected name-brand supplier to Ford, GM, and Chrysler. Except for their unique custom length, these ball joints are constructed from the the same OEM materials that have been extensively tested in Ford police cars and other heavy duty service vehicles, where they have far exceeded the durability of current production "stock" ball joints.
Eliminates Body Roll. The X2 ball joint was specifically designed to correct the front roll center geometry. The X2 ball joint features a longer shaft, to raise the spindle in relation to the ball joint pivot point. Springs spacers are included in the X2 kit to maintain the same ride height as the stock factory ball joint, but with an improved roll center height.
Steeda Bump Steer Kit
http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q55/MarcInHawaii/BumpsteerKit.jpg
Correct Your Bumpsteer with this Bumpsteer Kit that features spherical rod-ends with tapered shafts for a hassle-free installation that requires no drilling of the spindle for fit. Recommended for all lowered Mustangs with X2 Balljoints, X5 Balljoints and/or Caster Camber Plates. Now available with a wider range of adjustment than other kits.
Definition: Bumpsteer is a change in toe* angle caused by the suspension moving up or down. Bumpsteer is built into the geometry of the suspension and steering system, and has nothing to do with turning the steering wheel. The effect of bumpsteer is for the wheel to toe-in or toe-out when the suspension moves up or down. This toe change or “steering” occurs any time the suspension moves, whether it is from body roll, brake-dive, or hitting a bump in the road. Bumpsteer is undesirable because the suspension is steering the car instead of the driver.

A BEAST in the making
I can't wait to get these on the car. I also have this going on the car as well:

I also have a set of carbon fiber valve covers--haven't decided which ones I will use.
http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q55/MarcInHawaii/CarbonFiberValveCovers.jpg
Still haven't decided which ones I will use. I just have the valve covers not the coil covers. They were done using that new hydrocarbon fiber procedure.

Scooter, the cobra should be in Utah in the next couple of weeks. I arrive in Utah on 6 July. I am hoping to start installing all this stuff by the end of the month. :marc:

Sounds like a fun July!!!
Made my 50th purchase for the cobra over the last year. Got a carbon fiber radiator shroud.
http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q55/MarcInHawaii/CarbonFiberRadiatorShroud.jpg
That should be it for the motor. All I need now are some good gauges to monitor everything and I have my eye on some right now. :)
Well I finally made the plunge. With all these motor upgrades, I needed something to monitor, air, fuel, boost, water temps, IATs, etc. etc. etc.
I have been wanting the AeroForce dual gauges for a long time. The price has always kept me away from them. I found a great deal on the gauges and the wideband. What is nice is the wide band hooks directly into the gauge itself so you can monitor everything. My current Innovative wideband is a hand-held device that is impossible to monitor when you are driving. It sits on my center console.
The AeroForce gauges allow you to monitor 8 different parameters at one time toggling between all of them.
This is what they look like on the guy's cobra I bought them from:

damn Marc the car is going to be like a fighter plane when its done lol, nice gauges who makes em?
AeroForce.
These are some nice gauges. With just these 2 gauges, I should be able to monitor everything. Some folks stick 4-6 gauges in their car. I didn't want more than 2 additional gauges, cutting out my A/C vents to mount them, or have gauges all over the dash.
I will have one gauge on one side of my steering column and the other gauge on the other side of the steering column. Two gauges to monitor everything. Sleek and simple.
The only thing that sucks is the price. They are not cheap. I got mine for a decent deal from a guy on SVTP that only owned them for a month, but still had to pay some serious coin for them with the wideband. Better than buying them new...if you bought this set up new (2 gauges, wideband, 3 map sensor) it would run your $725 plus ship/handling. :omg: Thank God, I didn't have to pay that much.

Hopefully those gauges aren't buggy for you. I read many of times where certain batches were flawed. Just remember to send the gauge back to Areoforce if it gives you problems.
Yeap, I have read a couple things on them, but normally that was when they were new right out of the box...flaw from the beginning.
These have been on the guy's car for a month and run great. :marc:

That's a lot of show and go Marc! It's going to be wicked! Who is putting it all together?
Myself and a guy in Utah. He has his own shop and we are going to do the build together. Afterwards, we will take it to a shop and have them dyno/tune it. :marc:
Ordered the absolutely last part I needed for my build.
Ordered the polished JLT Oil Separator. This little gem keeps the excess oil out of the intake during high boost.

Marc you're gonna need a new set of rear tires to go along with all that powah!
I'd say roll the fenders and get some custom widened stock style wheels! I seen a cobra somewhere that had some work done to trim the inside of the wheel wells and stuffed alot more tire than most in there.
I might have to do that Ruben! :marc:

I agree.. I like my mach 5 but if I had Marc's cobra I would get chicanes like I used to have with gloss black centers.. Shoot if I had the money I would have another set of chicanes that I could switch back in forth lol...
Those Chicanes are nice, one of my favorite TF Wheels. Or the RS TENS are nice as well. I am out of money, I think someone needs to donate me a set. :lmao:

New tires were delivered to my buddy today. :marc:
Here is a picture of the new meats that I had delivered for the cobra. Nothing special, just stock size replacements. I will most likely go bigger in the future when I decide what rims I will go with next year. Looking at CCWs or TFs.
