Since it's the "BIG 50" for me this year (can you say "midlife crisis"?), and my 15 year wedding anniversary year, and to help stimulate the ecomony.(how's that for rationalization?) on April 20th, the pony goes in for gloss black stripes and each panel being striped will get a full new clearcoat finish.
I got 6 quotes from $1,550 to $2,200...I am going with a quote for $1,873.98.
This is for a convertable...a fastback would be more if your considering this mod.
Their pulling the bumpers, cowl, hood and trunk. and removing the faux gas cap...

Here is what I plan to do....

BEFORE

AFTER..this is my friends pony.

My friend had all the parts clear coated so, NO stage 2 clear for my stripes....should be smooth through and through.

I am also buying the front plate auto hide bracket so I can fill in those plate screw holes.

So now the big question for you is....
I potentially will not have it back until May 7th, thats 2 weeks without a Mustang, what am I gonna do????
Anyone wanna rent their pony out???
Maybe rent a Hertz pony?
Grow out my finger nails now so I'll have something to naw on later?
Is there any cure for all this apprehension?????

It will look great when it's done. Try not to be too nervous. Look at it this way.. you will enjoy your car so much more after you havent been able to drive it for 2 weeks! :marc:

IMHO, painted stripes are the best way to go! it will cost about the same (if you have vinyl professionally installed) and will last far longer and will be easier to wash/wax/detail, not to mention countless color options

vinyl is way cheaper. at least if you compare the price of a GOOD paint shop. $200-300+ per panel is about the going rate for paint.

i spent 150 in materials, 50 to rent the booth, and 24 hrs of labor, masking, sanding, and other prep. 3 coats of basecoat, 3 coats of clear, on the entire hood, roof, trunk, and both bumpers. and i wont worry about the tape cracking in the heat, and wax build up around the edges. but i think its worth the extra $$ and effort to get the color you want.

Ive always wanted them and lots of people tell me id be making a mistake putting them on my car. My 2000 stang is laser red and im not sure what color to go with or even if it would look good. Any opinions?
