Well im in the process of re-building my engine again going more or less balls out on it. now i was looking at rebuilding my c4 trany again or maybe getting a bran new aod trans its got 4 gears not 3 like my c4 so what are the pros and cons of the c4 to aod there both aluminum (eh how ever you spell that) not that crapy fmx. by the way if my pics are still up you can see the ride if not its a 71/72 stang 302 70 351 heads.489 lift on cam obviousley a c4 with a shift kit. im puting some rhs alum heads on full roller setup about 500- 515 lift on new cam. timeing gears, windige tray setup, and some bottom end work to make it bullet proof about a 1800 stall, 670 4bbl doubble pumper full msd or petronix ingnition setup (YAY NO POINTS!!) and a new edelbrock nascar intake. yes everythign will be ported and exaust is the only thing getting polished. oh ya i allready have hooker comp headders on it. i know for the aod ill need Transmission crossmember
AOD shift linkage
Transmission mount
Slip yoke
Lokar kick down cable
Lokar Carb bracket for the kick down cable
and i think thats it.
oh ya and on a side note that guy i ran over no charges were brought up on me and no im not gettin sued

Your list sounds about right for doing the swap. But if you want a badass AOD you might want to check out silverfox over on clickclickracing.com
He is the man when it comes to AODs, C4s or any automatic trans. BTW what are you going to be doing with your C4?

if i decide to get an aod my c4 can be all yours. i have the build sheet some where for it. it has a factory stall but a really nice shift kit and all the electrical on it has like 4k miles on it. it leaks a little trany fluid by the bell houseing but thats an easy fix

my only problem is finding those parts for a 71-73 mustang.
( crossmember
AOD shift linkage
Transmission mount
Slip yoke
Lokar kick down cable
Lokar Carb bracket for the kick down cable)
i have only seen them up to 70.... :(

Some of it may have to be custom fabbed. 71-73 is tough years considering those were the beginning of the lessor sought after stangs beside the IIs. I guess we can all thank LeIacoka (or how ever you spell it) for that one. Check out silverfor on clickclickracing.co and he might even be able to help you out with some of that stuff too.

You will need to shorten your driveshaft too. I think the AOD and the T5 were the same length considering they come out of they swap between cars with those trannys. If that is the case you're looking around 1" shorter. If you want to save some you can make a crossmember or modify the one you have.
