5500?! :omg: The car redlines at 6000! That is way too high for a launch on street tires, no wonder you are spinning.. try toning that down a little!

When I had exhaust, a cold air kit, plenum and street tires on my GT I got my best times by coming off the throttle quickly at about 1200 rpms. Not sidestepping but coming up quick and spinning the tires just enough so the engine wouldn't bog. When the tires would hook up i would mash the gas and shift about 5800 rpms. If i remember correctly my best ET was 14.0 at about 100mph but my 60 ft. times were 2.2-2.3. Try experimenting with different launch rpms. If 1200 is too high try 1100 rpms. If 1200 is too low try 1300 rpms. Another way is slipping the clutch heavily, just enough to maximize forward motion if you know what I mean. Like when your on the street leaving from a dead stop, the higher you slip it the less bog you get and the more forward motion you get. I also had 3.27 gears and and if was bouncing off the rev limiter just as I was going through the traps I would always get my best time and mph where you have 3.73 gears I don't think that's possible. I know my 4.10 gears I am going through the traps in fourth. Hope that helps, good luck.

Are you using a drag radial or full blown slick? With a slick or a D.O.T. approved tire like A E.T. street and 4.10's I would say side step the clutch at at least 4000 RPMs.

good luck on running some better times. take out the front sway bar if you have not already it will take out about 10lbs or so and help transfer weight to the rear tires. also let us know how the track goes and all the details.

Oh yeah, remove the spare tire and jack for weight savings too. Just pray you don't get a flat on the ride home.

Hey MANDO!! Lemme drive her, ill bust a 13. LOL Dude pull your sway bar, pass and back seat. Run 45psi in the front tires for rolling resistance and 12-14 in the ET streets. Launch at 5k-5500 if not you'll bog. Trust me i tried lower rpm and 60fted 1.85. Launched higher to 5500 and hit that 1.71 60ft with 12.61 Et. Oh yeah one more thing powershift the hell outta here like you wanna destroy your tranny's synchros!! LOL J/k. But dont get your hopes up, Practice makes perfect. **** i stilll remember my first run in my gt.......16.1 !!!! Enuff said. LOL

Just takes time and practice. I had a good buddy of mine that could get a full 1/2 second faster run on my car than I could (not the cobra). He was just a better driver back then.

I'm not speakin for 88GT but, i think he meant that first focus on the launches then work into a good tire. The other way around just means you spent money to spin!
