The tires came in today and, weather permitting, I should be hitting the track this upcoming Saturday along side Myponyrocks!! Does anyone have some input as to how low I should drop the pressure and at what rpm I should launch at?? Bear in mind I have 4.10 out back and upper/lowers now installed...Thanks!

I know trial and error comes into play but i am trying to limit that because the track is nearly an hour away and there is no way I would be able to afford having to fill up on the way back, so I might be limited in my track time due to fuel limits unfortuneatly...Last time i spend about a half tank on a round trip that was essentially pointless because it rained the entire time!

i wouldnt lower the pressure that much being that it is a street tire. launch rpm thats i cant give you that either because every track is prep differently. but with DR you need do a good burn out not a huge smokey one like with slicks but do a descent one.

I have those tires too! I lowered mine to about 20 PSI and launched about 3800 on stock gears and they hooked pretty well.
I've done trial and error on them for about 2 seasons and they seem to hook the best with that combo.
Even though its a "street" tire, I use them ONLY for the track and if you're drivin off the track with them. MAKE SURE to refill them up!
I've done big smokey burn outs and burned them a little bit, depending on if the track is hot or cols or whatever the conditions are
Aww you're going to the track with Greg? He's KING of the burn outs (ask him about the reverse burn out)
He'll be able to help you out a TON, very knowladgeable about Stangs & racing. GREAT guy!

yeah, i've been waiting to install my uppers/lowers, subframes, and of course my new Nittos before going to the track. 1quik46 and i did the CAs and i should be having the nittos put on some time this week but won't have enough time to do the subframes but that's ok - this way i will be able to do a before and after type thing.
I saw Greg's Stang parked out in the BX parking lot and eventually ran into him going toward his car. We've corresponded in the past and he pm'd me with the invite to Santa Pod raceway this Saturday and apparently there will be a number of Mustangs out there - should be fun!! I will see about posting pic/vid's after all is said and done...I'm thinking I will launch around 3-3500 and see what happens!

With the DR's, you can go as low as about 16 lbs .... I would purchase a small portable air tank and take it with you. Most tracks should have air available ..... I ran DR's on mine for awhile and I ran the tires at 16-18 lbs and I launched at 3200 rpms ... i averaged a 1.8x 60 ft on DR's

Good luck racing, let me know how it goes for you, just play around with it but I think you got the right idea. Hope the advise helped you out!

yeah, I'm looking forward to it!! I will first verify my a/f at a nearby shop with a dyno and then will move on to participate in further destroying the ozone a 1/4 mile at at time. Thanks for the info Bulldog and Queenbee!

I'm thinking I will start the tire pressure with what QueenBee said she does and work down from there and will launch at what Bulldog suggested and see what happens!! I cannot wait!!!!:happydanc

IMO, 20 PSI. going to low "can" reduce you trap speeds.

will having only an 8 inch wide wheel (as opposed to the 9" the tire best fits) prevent me from reducing the pressure beyond a certain point?

NT555R.... Best is to do no more then 8-10 sec burn out. Try to heat em in place then drive forward no more then 10 feet. You heat em to long they turn greasy. I always launched at 2200 rpm slip the clutch a bit in first then hammer it into 2nd. Best pressure I found was 18-20. 18 on hot hot days 20 in the evening and cool days.
Truth be told tho the Nitto's are best on the street. Track they do ok.
Now I also did "heat cycle" them like someone told me... I know for RR tires you need to but some say DR's need it too. I drove them 10 miles at regular street pressure (30psi) then found a nice smooth concrete lot, lowered the pressure to 18 and did a 20 sec burn out. Drove home dismounted them put the pressure back to 30 and let them sit for 24 hours. I put about 12k on em and about 45 passes. This was on a 1997 TBird with a PI conversion, and a 75 shot. Ran 13.0's every pass. Sixty foot.... 1.91 MPH... 107

what was the purpose of heat cycling them? did that make any difference that you are aware of? just curious! thanks

I was told by a rep of Nitto that it is a good idea if it will see a fair amount of street duty.... I kinda wondered my self....

there not like slicks which are meant to have the **** burned out of them and have the pass made right after. DR are meant to be drivin on kinda like racing brake pads have to have some hard braking to put heat in them to work.
