I have a 2000 mustang gt convertible, and i have been having this problem with my speedo and tach lately that they both go crazy at wide open throttle. If im hammered down my speedo will go from whatever speed im at then will either go to 0 mph and/or max out then sometimes act normal for a second then go nuts again, there is no pattern to follow, i just dont get it. Its a little different each time it seems. My tach does the same thing. I have a diablosport tuner and thought maybe the tune messed something up so i uninstalled the tune, but it makes no difference, it still does the same thing, so i reinstalled the tune. My car isnt very modded, it has diablosport tuner, pypes exhaust, bbk x pipe w/high flow cats, and a roush cold air induction kit. I dont think any of those could have caused a problem but i reinstalled the factory air intake tube and filter and still have the same problem. Im not extremely familiar with mustangs really, but i know on my old taurus SHO, i was once told that some tach issues i was having may be because of some cam sensor problem, im not real sure if there could be anything like that wrong with my stang and thinking probably not because my speedo and tach both start acting nuts at exactly the same time. I have not had any issues with my tach or speedo when i drive normal, but driving normal is no fun. I just want to figure out how to make the gauges work like they are supposed to.

sounds like a miscommunication between your gauges and your ecu. seems like maybe the vibes at higher speeds are causing it? pull your gauge cluster out and see if the connections on the back side are tight

check the connection on the back of your cluster, my y2k v6 did the same thing.. it just had a lose connection. the erratic behavior under wide open throttle might be because of the harness moving a little from the force of the acceleration

Connection is good. Now what?
