Man i shore hope this isnt goint to be a final decesion. I agree they need to maybe make the cars safer or slow them down a little but there are better ways in my opinion to slow the cars down than making the race distance shorter. Im shore some type of restrictor plate could slow these cars down.

thats dumb
i dont see how taking 320 feet out is really going to make it any safer
its sad when somebody loses a life but thats part of the sport, those guys get in those cars knowing that something could happen and kill them
i dont know thats my opinion

I don't think that making the track shorter is going to make much of a difference. But it may what do I know.

you would think they make it longer, shorter track means the car will make it to the end faster :dunno:

It's the track safety that needs to be improved. Longer shutdown areas and no walls or poles at the end of the track.

shuting it down at 1000 ft gives the driver some more real estate to work with when these tracks were built the mph and et's were much slower. they need more land any way they can give it! next time your at a national event ask some of the top fuel teams if they would rather run 1/4 or 1/8 mile on average you will find more that will say 1/8 mile, because most of their castrophic failers are at the other end of the track ie less stress on rotating equipment. safer all the way around!:harold:

at 300+ MPH, 320 feet is nothing!!!

Um most accidents are usually in the first 1/8th... Unless you aren't counting luanches...

But most drivers lose control around the middle of the track if you look at most of the videos on the net any way. Maybe engines failures and such at the top end...

Any way cutting down to 1k' is fine by me for the top fuel and big cars as long as the little guys like us get to still run the full 1/4.

yep, ^^ what Vic said........I can remember, when I was a kid in da 70's Puyallup( Washington state ) raceway track. They had a 150ft sand trap and two safety nets after that. And after that it was still a couple of hundred feet till ya hit something....... NHRA just does'nt want to lenthen the tracks for some reason. Personaly I think they dont want to admit that the NJ track was unsafe, because that would open up a pandoras box of lawsuits against them. So if they race there again they are saying see it's safe, and the new 1000ft rule will save their azzes.........just 1 mans opinion.

i say it would be better if the tracks were longer..but that means every track would have to lengthen the track, which would be costly and time consuming.this way noone has to spend a million. in fact did you see how much the teams are saving in fuel.i dont like it but i think they did what was easy for everyone.

it looks like the texas motorplex is going to lengthen their track

It really sucks to hear that a good racer is gone. Thats the last thing we want to hear. NHRA does a lot to keep us safe and we all appreciate it very much but IMHO they need to do some math here. Some of these cars are hitting 330-340 mph in 1320 ft. Take into consideration that they are really making mph between 100 ft and 1000 ft. When they cross the traps they are reaching the top of there power curve.

So the cars that hit 330-340 in the 1320 I would be willing to bet can hit 300 in a 1000 and somebody will make it happen to set a mph record in 1000 ft. If 320 ft will make that much of a impact on it then why not make the big tracks holding national events add 320 ft to the shutdown area?
