Old tires : Kumho 711's
Best hook N/A was 2200 RPM clutch slips at around 20 psi. Tires did pretty good considering I was putting down 300ush rwtq.
New Tires : Nitto 555's (Non-D/R's)
Still haven't figured out how to launch with them. I spin if I launch anything other than idle. Tried 18-25 psi and 1200-3000 rpm launches, nothing worked for me.

havent heard too many good reports on those tires. Where we race at in Germany though, if you dont have the M/T ET street drag radials or straight up slicks, you dont have traction.

yeah the nitto 555r's are great tires for roadway driving (cornering and all around dry weather driving) I used to run them at the track and i went all the way down to15 psi on them ... I launched at like 2800 and chirp them in 1st gear ...

I just bought a set of nitto 555r II's for the rear, and I gotta say they hook and feel incredibly well. However, the only other tires i've had on it were some old street tires i've never heard of. These wont kill you in the rain, I was actually able to floor it in first without spinning in the first rainstorm I had, but I didnt try going over 60mph! The only downside is that they are really soft so dont expect much life out of them.

I started off with Nitto 555s up front and Nitto 555Rs in the rear. I won't lie to you I loved them to death. They hooked well for me at the track. Damn near stock in an auto with no stall I had a consistant 1.99 60ft.

Yea, I never could get traction in my coupe. I had to launch around 2000rpm, and feather first gear, even with a good burnout. :dunno: same tires and wheels worked good on the 'vert. Guess the lighter weight was just too much for them. It would pop the drivers side strut when I caught second, though.

NT555R.... Best is to do no more then 8-10 sec burn out. Try to heat em in place then drive forward no more then 10 feet. You heat em to long they turn greasy. I always launched at 2200 rpm slip the clutch a bit in first then hammer it into 2nd. Best pressure I found was 18-20. 18 on hot hot days 20 in the evening and cool days.
Truth be told tho the Nitto's are best on the street. Track they do ok.
Now I also did "heat cycle" them like someone told me... I know for RR tires you need to but some say DR's need it too. I drove them 10 miles at regular street pressure (30psi) then found a nice smooth concrete lot, lowered the pressure to 18 and did a 20 sec burn out. Drove home dismounted them put the pressure back to 30 and let them sit for 24 hours. I put about 12k on em and about 45 passes. This was on a 1997 TBird with a PI conversion, and a 75 shot. Ran 13.0's every pass. Sixty foot.... 1.91 MPH... 107
