anyone know the easiest way to remove the trunk emblems from my 02 GT?? I wanna say they are bolted on but I don't see any way of accessing the back side of the emblems from inside the trunk...let me know - thanks

i have used fishing line to pull it off like a saw..Start at the top and "saw" through it ..then use something like goo gone or goof off to get the glue off the trunk

so are they 3m taped or taped and 'bolted?' What i am doing is applying black vinyl to black out the area between the tail lights and it is far cheaper to use the vinyl than to pay the 155 for the actual honeycomb panel and it seemed like you had to use the emblems to help hold on the panel, if purchased, which suggested that they were bolt on...

i dont recall them being bolted on. but an easy way to see is to look on the other side of the trunk for nut plates or nuts

They are held on with 2 way tape. Fishing line works, or a putty knife will also work

no problem...just be real careful if you use the putty knife. and if you decide to do teh fishing line, WEAR GLOVES!!!!, And get a decent test line, IE 25 lbs test i think is what i used

I apply masking tape around the emblem if scratching needs to be avoided. in some cases it doesnt matter

yeah...if he is covering it with the honey comb, but if that honey comb doesnt make a good water tight seal it is a breeding ground for rust.

yeah I'm doing the vinyl thing since that is far cheaper than the honeycomb option..,not looking forward to putting it on though - that will be a pain in the exhaust!!

I used a hair dryer and putty knife that was taped on the end (for protection of paint). they came right off. All except the Ford emblem which had the hole unde the emblem, so I put that back on until I had it painted and had everything shaved, lol.

Good FKN luck! I tried it once, didn't work. They sent me a second set and had a local guy here put them on, DO NOT use a hair dryer, use soap and water, and its a beeyotch to put on, Let me know if you wanna see how it looks.

And I scratched the back end of my car getting that damn badge off, but its not too bad, and it'll always be covered either by the vinyl or by the stock badge.

yeah, I'm thinking the same thing - if i end up scratching something then the vinyl will cover it anyway. I have a couple of buddies that will be helping with the vinyl and they both have worked with the stuff before so hopefully it will go smoothly...now if it would only stop bloody raining over here!

some emblems have a hole in the body to center the piece, but not bolted, this makes it hard if you are shaving emblems, but if you are going to cover it, just put a piece of clear packing tape over the hole and you should be fine, the best way to find this out before removing it, is to look on ebay at the replacement emblems, and look at the back of the emblem.. good luck

GT and Ford emblems should not be bolted on. I just worked them off very carefully with a small knife.
