I tried to do a search on here, and will continue to look both here and on other sites... but was wondering how hard it would be, or if someone sold the brackets needed to swap an newer (90's model) 302 into a 289 equiped Mustang??? I have been trying to see if I could find out if it would just be a straight drop in (other than the fuel system upgrades, and the wiring for the engine management and such) just primarily the bolting it in part that I am trying to find out about... The reason I ask is my "dream car" is a 66-69' Mustang with a newer Procharged 5.0 with some mods done to it.. and am just wondering what the feasibility of this swap was?? Thanks guys!!

Should be entirely possible. I don't know about the mounts themselves, but the mounting points on the block shouldn't have been changed. I imagine all you need are some stock motor mounts for whatever Stang you get...

Yeah that is what I was thinking since they are a pretty close displacement.... but I guess I will try and get a hold of a few of the good companies as far as 302 performance and such.. and see if they might know...

a 289 id a de-stroked 302. The motor mounts on the 289 will work on the 302 H.O. the issue you'll have is making the hole for the wiring harness to pass to the kick panel for the ECU, and don't forget the change your flywheel/flexplate to a 50oz. balance.

Unsubscribing.

Yeah I know about the pain of making the large hole for the wiring harness to go through... I was mainly worried about the mounting... I know the wiring will be a huge job to tackle on its own... I was looking to possibly run a T56 with the swap once I do it... but if I run a rebuilt stock I will remember the flywheel/flexplate swap... why does it need to be swapped though??

90's model 302 are 50 oz balance when the 289 was 28 oz balanced

Probably wanna use the oil pan off the 289 too

+1. I know Fox mustangs used a different oil pan, I presume the SN95 5.0's used the same one as it was just a modified Fox chassis. If it's the case that the Fox oil pan doesn't fit, would you have to change the oil pickup tube as well?

this swap is real easy i ve done it to a 65 coupe, you wont have to change the flywheel or the balanecer if your using a newer tranny, but if you use the t-56 tranny your going to have to do alot of metal work to the tranny hump, the t-5 you dont have to do any metal work, there is a bunch of specialty parts you need to do the swap tho
they also have wiring kits for the omputer because the stock 5.0. ones arent long enough, and the headers that come on the 5.0.s dont fit in the engine compartment, i learned that the hard way
let me know if you still need info on this, i'll be glad to help:mick:

I can get you a great deal on Heidts suspension products that would get rid of all most your problems and even update your car to coil over suspension with disc breaks!

If not, than mustangman868302 is correct , many parts are available to do the swap. as for your motor mount question, It should be a straight swap. The T5 bolts in fairly straight forward but will need a new crossmember and possibly a cable clutch set up. Modern driveline is were I got my stuff. As for the T56, you will need to convince it a tad
lmk if you need help
