ok..... im thinking about tryin to make the hood scoop on Cait's GT somewhat functional.
2 questions...
1. how difficult would it be to cut a hole in the hood?
2. is the scoop siliconed on to the hood or what??
anyone ever done something like this before???

You'd have to take the lining of the hood out, then cut a hole in the hood. I've seen it done, didn't look too hard. You just have to get something to cut through it, and be careful you dont cut too much or you'll screw the hood up where the scoop doesn't cover it.
I can't remember since I haven't had my stock hood on for so long, I don't know how its held on, I know it takes a bit of force to take it off

Well you asked.. LOL I was just going into detail. DER! I know a few people that have done it, I've seen it after wards..Thought about doing it with my Stocker, and then just decided to buy a new hood and get rid of the buldge scoop anyways!
Functional Hoods FTW
the hood scoop would determine how its held on. plastic clips and or 2 way tape on the 03. Not hard to do with the right tools, but not a good idea IMO

It is rather easy, but unless it is a full blown race car, its not really recommended on a DD ...

Wrong... the Mach scoop gets 0 water into the bay. The rubber seal has a drain line that runs down. The Scoop itself has 2 drain points as well. The air flows in a way that minimizes water on the filter.
As to cutting the hood... if you REALLY wanna do it (and I highly suggest you don't) it's 3 or 4 screws and then the front grill part holds the scoop in too.
There have been nothing but bad experiances posted by people who have done this. From fouled plugs to the hood scoop ribbing off and cracking the windshield.
The hood cannot support the sail effect caused by the removal of the grill and will eventually fail. You can add reinforcement, but few have done it succesfully as a free mod.
Banshee, KarKraft, and CDC all make shaker kits for varying prices. A couple manufacturers used to make a functional stock scoop thing, but I don't think any one makes them any more.
