Ok, well, I got my car dyno'd at Murillo's today and I was very disappointed. 122hp/177tq, I know she should be atleast be making anywhere from 150-165hp/220-240tq stock.
Its a stock 289 with HEI distributor and 3 month old plugs and wires, 14'' K&N extreme air filter assembley, flex-a-lite fan, and dual exhuast.
You think thoses are good numbers or is something wrong?

Oh, and for some reason, it takes forever to get it up to 4,000rpm and only goes up to 4,600rpm.
Anyone have an idea?

When did it start taking forever to get to 4,000?

Sounds like you may need a compression check, you might have leakdown on all your cylinders, how long since a rebuild, your valves are probably out of adjustment, all kinds of stuff. I don't think anything is Wrong per say, but I would say that the engine is wore down, how many miles doesn't matter as how old it is sometimes.

not really sure, I never really used to step on it and when I did it was to peel out and I didn't look at my tach, and I don't have to get passed 4k to peel out

your probably right. where can it be done and how much?
I'm not sure how long since rebuild, all I know is whoever had it before the guy I got it from(he only had it a year and never really did anything with her) rebuilt the engine and probably put a cam.

Compression test is easy but takes a little while it's a kit that goes in your spark plug holes one at a time and you turn her over etc.. It's a cheap kit but I think Autozone my rent them out as well. As for rebuilds, if they bought a Jasper rebuild and just put it in, don't expect a whole lot of power. There are TONS of ways to up the power on that best staying all ford, find some old 69 302 heads or 351w heads and they are 2.02 x 1.90's and will give you easily 40 hp, then a cam and hi rise your setting Damn pretty even with your same carb. Honestly heads and some long tubes will really wake that car up:)

As for adjusting your valvetrain, just grab a Chilton or a Hanes for you car and follow the instructions, you have a great/simple car to learn tinkering on:)

For what it's worth, mine has stock heads + cam (though bored .030 over and with a 302 crank), but an Edelbrock performer intake, Carter 540cfm carb, headers, duals, electronic ignition, and pulled 160hp/227tq. It would have been more if I'd had a fan clutch.

Is yours a 2-bbl or 4-bbl? Headers? Stock intake manifold? That'd be about right for a well-tuned 2-bbl methinks.

Ryan in reality that aint to far off for a STOCK 289 with a 2BBL and a AUTOMATIC transmission. A stock 289 like yours is doing good to put 200 to the flywheel.

Also it probably has like 8.5 C/R so it aint gonna make big power.

Toss a set of good heads and an intake on it a set of L/Ts and som 2 in pipes and it will get ALOT better..

I could do the compression test myself than, I would rather do it and learn during the process.
K, I will look around for those heads, I know I can find some.
I plan to get tri-y lt's also.

2bbl stock heads/intake but has a cam, don't know what cam it is though.

I would def. say try swapping out those parts as these guys have said... and yeah the compression check is real easy to do yourself with either a purchased kit or rented... I would say if you have the money to do it, get the engine rebuilt and then go with some upgraded heads and such as said above... and enjoy the extra power and added torque that you will now have back and gained with the upgrades...
