This has been brought to my attention today:

"DETROIT — Ford Motor Co. said Wednesday it is recalling 470,000 Ford Mustangs from the 2005-2008 model years to recalibrate how forcefully the air bag deploys on the front passenger side of the car.

Internal testing showed the air bag could injure a small, unbelted passenger, said Ford spokesman Wesley Sherwood. The recall was posted on the Web site of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Sherwood said the fix would address “a very rare scenario,” and there were no reports of injuries or accidents tied to the recall.

Nearly 435,000 of the recalled vehicles are in the United States, with most of the remaining vehicles in Mexico and Canada.

The Dearborn-based automaker will notify customers by mail in early March. Owners can take their vehicle to a dealer to have the air bag recalibrated to deploy at a lower force."

I think this would be the first recall on the S197, not bad.
I guess I will wait for the letter

Hey, I am just keeping my fellow members here informed on what I hear from FORD and in the news.

I just had both the lower front control arms replaced on my '06 Mustang last week from a recall. Tech found a nut stripped from the factory on the left side lower control arm, so that ended up being replaced. Tire alignment also was done along with a new fuel pump needed. Now I wait for the official letter about the air bag from FORD (watching the mailbox).

That was done on a service bulletin

Service Bulletin - dealerships only repair cars when customer knows about SB and request the work, or if its in the shop and the repair falls under the SB.

Recall - mandatory letter, and all cars must be repaired. Recalls normally issued for safety items.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration this recall is ONLY for the 2008s. I ran a check on the 05, 06, and 07s and it does not show.

My question is.........how does the air bag know??.............that it is a small FEMALE in the seat and not a small MALE.

For Recalls: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/recalls/recallsearch.cfm

If you have an 08....you have one on the airbag.

How can a 200 mph+ airbag come out with to much force? The faster the better.. sounds ghey to me

In my state, seatbelts are required by law. Even if they weren't, my passengers either buckle up or the car sits (the seat belt chimes are annoying and besides...it's my a$$ if they aren't buckled up). So, even though I got the letter, the recall is pretty much useless. There will be no small unbelted female in the car...ever. I ain't wastin' my time taking the car in.

I received the recall for my 2006, decided I would wait till I moved back to Houston and get settled before I took it back to Ford, ended up getting hit by a drunk driver head on. The air bags worked great in my crash! I didnt even bruse!
