I've had my 05 stang for about 7 months now. I've waxed it at least 3 times since then and wash it at least twice a week, I've never noticed any problem. Last week while washing I noticed in front of the hood ( next to the headlight it is rusting through paint bubbling, from the inside out ) so I lift the hood to look for a source and find it's rusting in four other places all within 2 inches from the front. Theres no scratches and no other source I can find how it started. I know welcome to Guam hunidity central, Ford shoud use us as a testing ground for all parts eh?.......anyway, I take it to the dealer ( five more months til the warrany expires ) and they took pictures and sent them to ford. Now i'm just waiting for word so I can get them to fix it..........Time to do a inspection of da entire car for sure...........anyone else w/ a 05 or earlier ever have this problem?...will update as needed

Looks like the Guam weather contributed to the problem, I am sure ford will
take care of this. Where was the car previously located?

It's been here the whole time, previous owner was in the Navy...... My 94 silverado did the same thing, but it took ten years for any visible rust.

Here in Fl all 05-07 are doing the same thing, it starts on the underside of the hood.
Ford is starting to warranty this and on my vert, the side window trim is also rusting.
I would take it to ford there.

wow, thanks Eric. Thats good info...........Yea the underside is where it's pretty bad. Maybe they forgot to shoot it w/ enough primer. Already took it in, just waiting for the ok to bring it to them.

That's really bad.
Geez.
My 90 was from Florida and is now in Chicagoland and it only has one spot of rust on the entire car and it was never even garage kept.
Sorry about the bad luck, hopefully Ford helps ya out!

well, after snoopin around other mustang sites, I found this problem to be a issue w/ many other mustang owners. just a few quotes from various sites.

all i can say is ford got cheap on the paint job on these cars, i can already see bubbling under the front lip of my hood and every little chip is down to the metal, it is like there is only less than a hair thick coat of paint and primer on the car. also since the car is black you notice every spot that ford either forgot to paint or messed up, it is like they need to relearn how to paint on metal for the stangs

6.Paint on edged of hood and under hood bubbled, up dealer said due to oxidation of hood . Dealer repainted hood

I just had mine fixed at the dealer for the very same problem. It's not rust,it's corrosion of the aluminum. The reason it bubbles is it must have been contaminated before it was painted.Ford has had a bunch of problems with this. Some dealers are replacing hoods altogether because of this.Check with a GOOD dealer that has quality body people. They have a procedure to fix this.Ford knows about this My paint I've heard electrolosis is the cause not what Ford claims as corrosion prior to factory paint. They used to put grounding straps from the hood to the firewall and it seemed to work. The local dealership said they will repaint it, I don't want to worry about this again in 2 years, but with no warranty to take care of the problem. Check the underside of the hood along the pinch welds, That's were mine started, now it is appearing on the outside. Good luck, let me know what your dealer does.
anybody have a problem with the hood corroding. the hoods aluminum and the corrosion is bubbling the paint. im going to show it to my dealer and see if theyll warranty it. i read the warranty info and it reads like they fix it if its rotted through to make a hole

hmmm thats enough quotes, tends to happen more often in high humidity places. Dealer contacted me today they are not going to fix it. They ordered me a whole new hood painted w/ my exisiting color code........now thats what I call service eh?......now I'll just wait 6 weeks for it to arrive on island.

there is a TSB from ford about this problem, my hood is doing the same thing.
2005-2007 Mustang
TSB# 06-25-15
article supersedes TSB 04-25-1 to update the vehicle model years.
ISSUE:
Some vehicles may exhibit a bubbling or blistering under the paint on aluminum body parts. This is due to iron contamination of the aluminum panel.
ACTION:
This TSB provides service tips and procedures, outlining methods to properly prepare and protect aluminum body parts from cross contamination.
BACKGROUND

Ford's Scientific Research Laboratory has performed a number of tests on vehicle body parts returned for corrosion related concerns. Testing has revealed that the aluminum corrosion was caused by iron particles working their way into the aluminum body part, prior to it being painted.
