are these held on strictly with M3 or are the holes of any kind i need to worry about? I ask because I don't have the money to do the paint touch ups that I badly need and don't want it to look any worse.the other concern I had was paint fade but the fake gas cap was stolen last week and there was no paint fade(just a scratch from where they used a screwdriver to pop off the cap...LAME! ) so I figure it was time to take off the UGLY door ding strips.

there isnt (or shouldnt be) any holes behind it. Never seen an 05 with door molding before
Might wanna put a bdouble layer on top and bottom of the molding so you dont scratch the door, if you use a putty knife. some heavy fishing line would work better

Is this a used rental car or a fleet car? All of them have the ding guards on them. I have never seen them on cars that the dealers sells.

I was thinking the same thing, I know rental stangs have them.

I've seen them dealer installed before, can't say I blame most people for yanking them off either. Everyone I have seen pull them off used fishing line and had great results :mick:

Well the ding strips came right off no problem (fishing line worked great)
Unfortunately so did the clear coat:eek:. So I guess ill go get some more M3 and put them back on as i just had the offer on the house we were trying to buy accepted, so no money for paint for a while.
So warning to anyone else who has them and is thinking off taking them off, be prepared you might to have to paint afterwards.

:wtf: the clear shouldnt have came off. was it painted before? Factory paint wont lift that easy. you could rip them off and that wont happen

I did mine on the 04 and I had no problem. I just pulled them off slowly and then used rubbing alcohol. I like the clean look!

I don't really know i got them off and started cleaning the ring of grime that was left,I rubbed my nail across it and clear flaked off when i looked close I could see the clear coat and it was like that on both sides. I don't know much about body work but could the paint have been touched up and clear been sprayed over the ding strips?

Factory paint wont do that. Hell, even good after market paint wont. I do alot of taping on my paint to prevent burning during polishing and never had clear lift. something aint right. a body shop would have to remove that to blend the door and they never anticipate clear lifting, and painting the qtr cuz some crap like that.

Yeah I'm really kinda bummed about the hole thing as it will probably be a year or more before I can afford the paint , I just cant seem to win with this car and yet I wouldn't want any other one. I must be a glutton for punishment.
any way thanks for the feedback.
