View Full Version : Head unit fitment
Will the head unit from an 05 mustang GT (shaker 1000) fit in the place of the Old school Mach 460 head unit in the SN 95 Mustangs?

I dont see why it wouldnt... but your biggest consern will be the connections... the shaker 1000 has more to it than a 460 system does...
What does it have that the 460 doesnt? I know it could have SAT radio, which of course mine doesnt have.

i personally think its not worth the time and hassle. it could fit with alot of customizing. and i mean alot. as for the connections, most are the same. i think it would be best unless your a wizard, to just stay with it or buy an aftermaket head unit.

It can be done. but it is a ROYAL pia. I did mine and the wiring is totaly dif.
the 460 has a standard main amp in the radio then takes that to a small amp under the head unit that splits the output and sends a low level signal to the two bass amps in the trunk and has its on hi freq amp that runs all four tweeters. The cd 6 has the tweeter amp in it and then sends a low level sig to the woofer amps. I put radios in airplanes for a living and it took me a lot of effort to figure it out. some of the conectors are the same and some are not.

Hm.....wow, you have exceded my radio knowledge....LOL and I work on airplanes too....scared yet?
I should be able to plug in a new head unit (aftermarket) with an adapter kit, and still use the amps in the rear, right?

Yes there are a couple that will work but you will need the front amp to stay in the system also.

Too much trouble to get it in and wired. Your better off buying an aftermarket stereo. Your chances of it fitting are alot better..

2000 and newer have the amp built into the radio. You will just need an adapter so that you can power the rear amps for 460 speakers.

I was refering to a aftermarket unit with adapter, you will need all the amps in the car to stay. that way there is NO rewiring at all. Also the amp in the car is crossed at the proper point for the factory tweets to work there best. If you are putting in a 2000 or newer factory unit you are correct and I refer back to my PIA post.
