well i did not take my distributor out or mess with my timming and it should be at top dead center so i do not think that is it but i will check that. but what else could it be.

...When you say rebuild what are you talking about... like all the way to the heads? If its hesitating.. like my 95 did.. its a low compression in one of the cylinders. That can cause it to stutter and hesitate a bit. if you machined the heads and such.

It could be fuel pressure. (IE pump going bad, clogged filter)

Just check it with a timing gun real quick to determine where your at. I have mine set at 14* or 15* i dont remember exactly anymore. But yes it could be a ton of other things. Hows the harmonic balancer doing? I dont think that has been brought up yet.

How do you rebuild a motor without removing the distributor? I was having problems with my distributor comming loose untill I used thread locker on the bolt that holds it. maybe its just loose

all i did was change the gaskets on the motor. but yea i took the heads off of it. but it only hesitates every now and again. but when i get home i will check the timming on it to make sure that it is still where i put it. but thanks for all the help you guys are giving me.

I'm very confused.. if you took the heads off, the dizzy had to come out since you would have to remove the intake. I would pull the dizzy, bring the #1 cyl to TDC and reinstall the dizzy pointing to the #1 cyl.

well my smog pump just went out. it locked up on me. could that have been the reason it has been hesitating.

it is possible, but if it seized up you would have known about it right away.

it did i ended up on the side of the road. but what i was woundering it could it have been catching and it boggin my motor down. but now i need to find a used smog pump that works so i can get it back on the raod. i do not want to buy a new one because i am just going to completely take it off sooner or later but i need it to pass inspection before i do that.

it's possible, but not likely. anything could happen though.

don't put another one on, just buy a shorter belt and bypass it.

i wish i could but it will not pass the state inspection. i thought about that, but it will not work because of the way my belt goes through it.

My car was doing the same thing, and it was my fuel filter clogged up with sand. Now it's fine.
