View Full Version : Comp Orange Dilemma - Opinions Needed...

I bought a comp orange cobra from a local Ford dealer. Only 25k miles, one owner, and almost completely stock. Was reported to have completed a 40 pt inspection and to be in excellent condition. Only two problems....

1) Wife was po'd (already have an eatonized 99). She wants me to sell one or the other asap.
2) When I got the 04 CO home and under the garage lights, I noticed that the LH fender paint didn't match 100%. (Lesson learned for me. Never buy a car at night).

In order to investigate the fender, I put the car up on jackstands and gave it a thorough once over. Became obvious the fender had been replaced. The front & rear A arms had also been replaced. Also found the rear diff leaking and then found a CV joint leaking. I found a few other more minor issues too but those I could probably live with.

Needless to say, I called the dealer immediately and asked for either a refund or repair of the undisclosed issues. Dealer response: they tell me to take a hike, that I own the car and any issues are mine to deal with. They offer to fix it for $1650. After arguing about if for 5 days, they now say that they'd be willing to apply the purchase price towards the purchase of an 07 or 08 mustang. Still not what I wanted but a step in the right direction.

Decision: a) Stick with the CO 04, fix it myself and sue for fraud, b) Go for a grabber orange GT, c) go for a black shelby GT.

Forgot to ask... how much do you think the fender repair will affect the resale value?

call teh better bussines bureau, you should have a time limit on when you can return the car and i would talk to the main manager and not a sales man. IMO i think its BS how they did you

The grabber is a hot looking car, with a good facelift that is. I had the dilemma of getting a new stang or getting my comp orange 04 Cobra. It wasnt much of one. It all depends on what you want. For one thing..99% of Mustangs are timeless so newer isnt better when it comes to Stangs. When I see a hot Stang the older is sometimes actually the better. With that aside, the 03/04 are one of the best if not the best Mustangs ever made. Even now they are highly desired and in ten years, 20, 30 will be even more. It's a car worth keeping in the garage for Sunday drives for the rest of your life. One to be damn proud of. Sorry to say but I dont feel the same way about the new body style. I say stay with what you have. Fix what you can do what you can to get her perfect again. -Shane

You answer will be determined by the "Buyers Guide" you signed when purchasing the car. Not to be confused with a Buyers order or Purchase order, the "Buyers Guide" discloses any warranty information. This is what is on the car and usually says "remainder of factory warranty", "As-Is", or "Limited Warranty". Most dealers will sell newer inventory under the Limited Warranty, but because of the problems it could be As Is.

I can tell you that parts being replaced/paintwork does not have to be disclosed on a used car.

you should have a time limit on when you can return the car

Most states do not have a "cooling off" period or for the customer to have the ability to recind the purchase.

Sucks that you have these problems. Was this the CO that was on EBAY?

Good Luck
