I'm going to a trunk mounted battery and was thinking about going with a yellow top. Are there any other battery ideas out there for this.

My battery took a dump on me so it's time for anew one, might as well go ahead and put it in the trunk while I'm at lit.

does the red or yellow matter? I never realy researched the optima batteries.

Yellow are better for the trunk. Red are better for regular mounting.

Just came back from the shop a little while ago, haven't started the install yet, I'll be doing it later this week.I went with a red top. I'll be running both power and ground wires to the front of the car. I'll take some pictures and post up write up after we finish it all up.

I wouldn't run the ground to the front, the shorter the ground the better.

gonna run two grounds, one less than 18 inches long, and another up to the front of the car. At the front of the car it will be split and grounded to the fram and to the engine.

Yellow is a deep cycle battery. I personally think they are better for the trunk but each to their own :mick:

Sherry, good grounding is just as important as the power cable. With trunk mount batteries most people just ground it to the frame in the rear of the vehicle and later find charging issues, weak starting, and the power supplied to their ignition system have low voltage.

The yellow top is a deep cycle battery, and is much better suited for trunk mount for a drag car that doesn't run an alternator all the time.

Yeah we bought the yellow for Greg's 69' Cobrajet and it's in the trunk. I just wasn't sure why you were doing what your doing because I thought if you had it in the trunk with the short ground, why you would need and or want to run it to the front..BUT OK...gotcha:mick:

Yeah I read up on the grounding and it seems that people that run the ground all the way to the front don't have as hard time starting the car and charging the battery. Something I am going to have to do.

hell i don't remeber the link.

there are several links out there. Copper wire is a better conductor then the painted body and frame. I will be running 1/0 gauge wire to the starter, 4 gauge wire for the ground and power(will double as charging) wires.
