i figured i make a thread where we all can talk cars or smack about cars. its a nice general thread where the moderator's cant say " hey guys.. try to stay on topic ok". its open to any car, not just Fords or Mustangs.
now i'll start by sayin that im a fan of the new WRX STi. you throw a nice exhaust and a downpipe, and u have urself a sweet sounding "ricer". now im sorry but, id take an STi over alotta other cars in its price range like the Camaro, GTO and even the Mustang GT. why?? cuz u cant beat dumpin the clutch at 5k and just launching off like a rocket. yea it might be a 4 cylinder, but with the right mods.... it will eat up a good amount of cars on the street. and another car i like as well is the Lancer EVO. all tho its a toss up on wat id rather have between the STi and the EVO.

Moved this to the talk about any car section for ya Dean. :mick:
Oh and there is no reason to spend all that money onan EV or STi when you can buy a first gen DSM car and with the right mods smoke anything on the street for half the money.

I had a '90 Talon TSi AWD, 20g turbo, 3 inch turbo back exhaust, FMI, GM MAF, custom tuned at 20 psi. It was a high 11 second daily driver that knocked down almost 30 mpg as long as I stayed out the boost.

the EVO is the same thing as the AWD eclipse's and talon's just alot newer. so of course its cheaper to do up a DSM, there cheaper and easier to find.
20 psi is kinda lower compared to wat ive seen ppl push. ive seen 20 psi out of the stock turbo..... but wats funny is the EVO runs stock at 19 and them DSM's ran at 9 stock i belive. and extra 10 psi and only a 70hp increase?? i seen in a mag they had and EVO with 52 psi makin over 900+ at the wheels.

When I bought my Talon, it had 194k miles, we ran a compression test and a leak down test and constantly monitored oil pressure. The we decided to strat modifying it slowly to see how it reacted. When we did the turbo upgrade, we used a tubular manifold, at the time the car had 204k on the clock so we used an electronic boost controller and limited the boost to 20 psi just to be safe, we you would stand on it the boost would spike around 25 psi and then settle back down to 20 psi. The car served it's purpose for another 50k miles when I sold it to a friend that is still driving it just as I sold it him, he sent me an email a coupe months ago to let me know the car racked over 300k miles. It broke the 300k mark while making an 11.88 pass down the quarter.
Any car is faster if its yellow.

Why not?? you can throw those cars around like no tomorrow.. and the new ones don't look as bad as the first gen do... Let me see if I can find the pic from the first mazda zoom zoom challenge I did.... First I flew down to Florida for it, and then I did it again a couple weeks later when it came to NJ.. I did another one last year also, but they didn't have it this year..

You have a lot to learn about Mitsubishi's.....LOL
The cars known as DSM's were the Eclipse, Talon, and Laser. DSM was Diamond Star Motors, a joint venture of Chrysler and Mitsubishi. They came in all sorts of layouts, from slow fwd to turbo awd. The turbo ones can be made stupid fast relatively cheaply, but they do have their own unique issues.
The EVO is a souped up Lancer. All it has in common with a DSM is the base engine (4G64 DOHC).
The boost difference depends on the turbo. As a general rule, the bigger the turbo, the lower the boost will be, to a point. In the DSM world, a 14b (smallish, stock) turbo might might be capable of running up to 20psi efficiently. You could put on a larger turbo, like a 20g or GT35R, and make more power with 10psi than the 14b would at 20....
What you can realistically run, and still be efficient, depends on the turbo size and your supporting mods. There is a point where a turbo is at its peak, and will actually begin to lose power as the boost goes higher....
I spent the last 10 years or so building turbo Mitsubishis, if you can't tell.... :woot:

i just never knew wat DSM stood for. and i know all about Chrylser and Mitsubishi teaming up, they did on alota cars. i worked at a Chylser dealership. the Conquest/Starion, Stealth/3000GT and even the older Averger V6 engine came from Mitsubishi.
and when i referred to the EVO and the eclipse been the same, i was reffering to the engine.
well technically the EVO is a souped up Lancer.... but not really. its like saying the SRT-4 is a souped up Neon, but.... not really.. the owner manuels for the EVO and the SRT-4 are not even the same as the Lancer and Neon's manuel. there 100% different. well i kno the SRT and Neon's are'nt the same, i kno ppl that have SRT-4's. never seen a manuel for either the EVO or the Lancer.

Yep...I spent most of my time and effort on Conquest/Starions, with a few DSM's and a Supra turbo thrown in for good measure....
The EVO and SRT-4 are representations of what the maker thought the performance community would do with those cars.....but at the end of the day, it's still just a Lancer and a Neon.... :lmao1: all the SRT's I've seen have Neon wrote on them somewhere.....tho I can see the allure of the type of car...you can fit the family in, get good gas mileage, and still have fun....a good mixture overall
Dodge/Chrysler used a lot of Mitsu engines in the 80's too....the 2.6 in ram 50's, caravans, k cars, etc....turbo version in the Starion/Conquest.....Then they split the Starion/Conquest line into the DSM's on one side and the 3000GT/Stealths on the other.....
Here's my old ride....

well idk wat SRT-4's u've been lookin at... but nowhere on the car, in the car or in the owners manuel does it mention anything about it being a Neon. my dad had an 04 and we both read the manuel, every single page and it never mentioned it being a Neon. only on the registarion and the insurance papers does it get called a Neon. not even on the papers he signed when bought it new did it say "Neon". its called the Dodge SRT-4. not the Neon SRT-4 or the SRT-4 Neon.
u may kno more bout DSM's then me, but i kno i kno more bout the SRT's then u.

I believe you.....I do know when I looked at one last year the MSRP window sticker said "Neon SRT-4"....I don't remember any other reference on the car....one of my friends had an 03 and it had a neon badge on the dash....it could have been something he added, tho, and not stock....
I liked the performance of the one I was looking at, but not the ride quality....the interior, seats and such seemed cheap....so I ended up with a Mustang GT premium :snicker:

i dont recall seeing it on the window sticker. and as for the badge on the dash??.... i have never been in a 03. only 04 and 05. but in the 04 and 05 it doesnt have that badge. and as for the seats. they came with 2 different seats. if u got side airbags u got different seats then the 1's w/o. and the 1's w/o came with Viper style seats. the Viper style seats are very nice and comfortable. nice n snug to the body. but wat do u want out of a 20k car?? its purpose was performance and not ergonomics and ride quality.

You can bolt a turbo on anything these. The SRT-4 no matter how you slice it is still a freakin neon. So what if it doesn't say neon on it, it's stilla neon. You can polish a turd but in the end it's still a turd.

well the SRT and the Neon dont run the same engine. well actually it is but the SRT has a bigger crank to handle all the extra power. makin it a 2.4L instead of the 2.0L.
and idc... the SRT-4 is a badass FWD car man. show me any other FWD car out there on the market that better performance wise??? even the the SRT-4 is'nt made anymore. it will makes its return as the Calibur SRT-4 later this year.

Yellow cars FTW :mick: Miatas are awesome for the track/autocrossing and such. I dont think i would ever own one as a street car. One of the main reasons is how small it is, with todays massive american cars and suvs your gonna lose if you get into an accident with anything else on the road short of a moped (felt the same way in my CRX) and 2 im a guy and i wont be caught dead saying i drive a miata lol.
And Deans89LXnotch are you talking about the 08 (or 09 depending on who you ask) STI? Im not a fan of it. Why would they make it only available in a hatch model? They should make it available in a 4 door the wagon and the hatch, let the customer pick. I think Subys styling has gone downhill since the Bugeye but the newest version is horrible looking. I dont mind the last front end they had on there but it certainly isnt an 02-03 bugeye. Those cars are sexy :gt4her:

its deff something European.... still ugly as sin tho. the Mazdaspeed 6 is a really nice car, but its weight is its major downfall. its cant compete with the STi or the Evo. its like with the R32, its weight is its biggest downfall.

i know skittles may be 14.xxx cars from the factory...but what're the odds that you can find more than a handful of drivers who are good enough who own them to actually run that fast off the parking lot?

the Roush is pretty fast but viper might have 'em
might??? MIGHT???? :darren
I'm bettin this Roush could hang with the Viper.....

ummmmm..... yea it may keep up with it till bout 40 and then the Viper starts pulling away.

yes you do need to have a talent to get that car to do what it is supposed too.

You may not want to go there.....MM&FF ran 12.20s in a Roush 427R with an automatic, and the P51 is oh-so-much-more capable than the 427R (at least 80HP more, over 100RWTQ more, better suspension, etc).....
Stock Vipers run around 11.7, as tested by Auto Mags, so I don't think it's unrealistic to expect the P51 would be able to keep pace with a Viper (too bad I couldn't find test data for the 51).

Now, if you throw a c6 Z06 into the mix, neither the Viper nor the Roush stand a chance......:(

I don't think a viper is going to run away from the 510 hp P-51. It may beat it, but it aint gonna run away from it. And isn't there a difference in price? For the same money I bet the results would change. As far as a z06, same goes.

0-60 might be close..... 1/4 mile the viper has the upper hand and then once we go for top speed..... Viper FTW!!!
now yes the Z06 is better then both. wont argue that point at all.
but remember this..... the P51 is an aftermarket specialty car, the viper isnt. :mick:

The viper might as well be one. It is aimed at a small specific group. And costs a lot more.
Masshole

the P51 has to be a 60k car and the viper is an 80k whip. the Z06 is like 70k.
01stage3
04-09-2008, 02:46 PM
te P51s I saw at Grand Prairie Ford were 62k. I would imagine that for another 18-20k I could make a p-51 smoke any Viper out there that hasnt had even more money put in it. Or for 10k it would definitely hang with the Z06 in most categories. Its like comparing a Fusion to a hemi Charger. You get what you pay for. And I would pay for the P-51 before a Viper or a Z06.

Go look at one in person. You will change your mind. Or a Trakpak. They give the impression of a Stang on steroids. And read the list of mods on them. About the only thing they have in common with a stock Stang is the name and the shell.

i would definitely take a GT500 over that roush. the base price of the new GT500 is only 44k. now with 36 grand to work with you could make just about any viper on the road your *****. i mean for like a grand you can get more than 600hp out of the GT500. oh, the possibilities....

That's because GM's LSx engines are designed to make power. If Ford would make an engine with 10.5:1 compression, it would make more power than it currently does. From '01 up, the LSx series of engines have been putting down pretty close to what GM says they are rated at (Watched a showroom stock 01 T/A dyno 317rwhp, GM rated it at 320bhp). Who knows what "standard" GM is using? The 03-04 Cobra's are the same in that aspect.
There is drivetrain loss, GM just underrated their engine :mick:

its not that GM underrates thats there cars. its that they dont update the power when they make changes to the motor.
here is a basic break up down of LS1
97-99= all LS1 parts
00=LS6 block everything else LS1
01-04= LS6 block and intake manifold everything else LS1

That's understandable, and Ford did the same things with the fox body mustangs. Rated at 225hp from 87-91, then 92 and 93 were rated at 215hp, even though minor changes every year was causing the power to fluctuate, before it reached it's final standing.
About the only MAJOR difference between the LS1 and LS6 is the cam and intake, possibly different PCM tuning. Everything else is the same. The Z06 had a larger MAF, and the Z06 is primarily what the LS6 was destined for. GM decided to put the Camaro and Firebird out to pasture with a bang, and did a pretty damn good job of it.
It's a proven fact that stock for stock an 87 Mustang LX coupe with 5.0 is faster than an 90 Mustang LX coupe with 5.0, even though they are rated the same HP, one is speed density, and one is mass air, and that changed Fords hp rating, even though they didn't mention it.
