With all the rain we've had this summer, I decided to get something that has traction.

Picked up a bone stock, low mileage, 95 Talon TSi/AWD, 5spd. It has full leather, power everything and all maintenance records. It was owned by an older gentleman who is an Amsoil dealer and used the car as a backup driver since 95.

From the factory, the car was rated at 210hp @6000 rpm and 214 torque @ 3000 rpm with a 1/4 mile time of 14.34 @ 94.50 according to MSN.

Price: $2,000
The good: Unmolested, 9/10 interior.
The bad, paint/clear coat is horrible on the top half of the car.

So far I've done a full tune up, catback, CAI, boost controller, short throw shifter, 18" wheels/tires, stereo system, autometer boost & fuel pressure gauges, and a wideband.
Brake rotors/pads and oem carbon fiber hood are ordered.

Near future mods include paint, 50mm turbo, full 3" exhaust/downpipe, injectors, fuel pump, DSMlink (tuning), coilovers and more supportive seats.
These mods should put the car in the high 12 second range, however, it'll see more autocross action than dragstrip.

So here it is....call me a ricer if you must! :snicker:

those are nice cars and can be VERY VERY fast if you know what to do to them. One thing you HAVE to watch out for is making sure the timing belt gets changed when it's supposed to, and they crankwalk real bad. The Talon and Eclipse (same car, different body) are notorious for having crankwalk in the second generation (95-99).

Nice! I won't call you rice. I once had a 98 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder with the factory turbo as a dd. It was a lot of fun (and a vert). I'd still have it but it was high mileage and everyone I ran into kept saying they knew who used to have it and it was a street racer. Strange because it was bone stock.

From me you get... :mick:

I know all about the regular maintenance items and actually, crankwalk isn't the issue people make it out to be.

My fiancé owns a performance shop that specializes in Nissans and DSMs. He's only seen one instance of true crank walk in a 2g car since he opened in 1998. 99.98% of the problems on these cars are caused by improper maintenance, cranking up the boost without supporting mods and/or flogging the crap out of them.

The stock 2G motor will easily handle enough horsepower to get me in the 12's.

Besides, I have a 6 bolt JDM motor sitting here just in case.

Easily! I used to have a '98 Eclipse. I knew a guy in a town south of here that had a damn near 400hp GSX. And a 6 bolt is always a good back-up plan! :mick:
