Hi from Germany.
I own a 1988 5.0HO Fox and it seems I have a problem with the Oil Pressure Sending Unit - or is it the Switch? - it is kinda leaking a bit.
I am new to the Fox Body, owned a '01 V6 until last November.
I am not quite sure if it is the Sending unit or the switch. The thingie which is leaking is mounted on the driver side of the oil pan. I don't lose that many oil but I want to replace and fix it before all my fluids go away ;-)
Anybody has a clue what it is and how to change it? Can't find anything in my Haynes Manual.
Hope somebody in here knows what I am talking about and helps me out!
Cheers from Frankfurt
Frank

##edit## Our german Mustang Specialist told me the device in the oil pan is the Oil Level Sensor and I will change it in his shop next week. Hope this will help.
If you got any more suggestions, let me know.

The part you speak of is called the oil level switch. When the oil level gets too low in the oil pan, it causes the switch to turn light up the oil light on you dash. To remove the switch all you need is a wrench that will fit it, I forget which size it is, I want to say 15/16inch but don't hold me to that. Whatever size it is, it just unscrews from the pan itself.

Well, thank you
But the switch is not responsible for my dropping my Pressure gauge in the cluster is it? I hope that the oil pump is doing ok ...
And yep, my Check Oil light is on again sometimes ... will have to fill in a little again I guess *grrr*

the one that will cost your oil pressure to drop would be oil pressure sending unit witch is located in the front driver side of the block. also be carefull with stock gages after awhile you will not get accurate reddings.

especially the mid 80's foxes..... thats why u see so many ppl using aftermarket gauges.
and the problem does sound like its the sending unit. but with fords ya never know :lmao:

Yeah with Fords you never know. I never had ANY problems with my '01 but well, the 5.0 is a lot more fun to drive with the same gas mileage which is pretty important over here since a Gallon of regular Fuel is more than $6 !
Anyway, I will change the level sensor next weekend and since our holy master will be around, I will check on the pressure sending unit as well plus change the belt and the spark plugs.
If everything works out, I'll be back in the US for vacation in November and probably will get myself some aftermarket pressure gauge or maybe a complete extra cluster with various instruments since I like to be informed about wtf is going on :snicker:

I already checked online at autometer.com ... maybe I'll treat myself with some Pillar threesome
Oil Temp, Oil Pressure, Fuel Pressure - this is what I want.

fuel pressure gauges are best if put on the cowl, not inside the car.

not if they're electronic.

Well, first I'll check what the heck is wrong with the sensors or pumps or whatever part is making fun of me.
Then I'll see what I can get to retrieve the proper info from the sensors!
Hope I'll make it to the States again in November. Have to deploy my wife to some Outlet Mall or the Beach to have proper shopping time at Steeda, Autozone and so on

Same here. Too much guys with too less brain crawling around.
As to your other question: would be FL - I'd love to go out west to Utaaaah again but in November UT weather would shrink my balls at night :D
