There's a TSB on the clutch packs for the S197's. Some might hear a groan during low-speed turns (turning into a driveway, hitting a U-Turn, ect...). Instead of taking it to the dealership and having to fight them because of my gears, I added 4oz. of friction modifier to the differential, and it cleared it up. Just thought I'd let you all know about this in case anyone's like me and avoids the dealership service like the plague.

Friction modifier allows the clutches to slip, caeful adding too much, you may find it allowing the clutches to slip when you wnat them to hold.

you should have no more the 7 oz. total in there. and remember, Ford is doing this to please the general public, most of which don't want any kind of noise in there car, not perforamcne enthusiasts.

The noise that is being described is very slight and will cause no damage to the rear end, it is simply a characteristic of a limited slip differential. The tsb replaces the clutch pack with a revised clutch pack that will quiet it down. If you add too much friction mod, you're defeating the purpose of having a limited slip diff.

Good information I can't get my dealer to even aknowledge there is something making noise back there.

Mine has more than a groan. More like a heavy growel between 70-80, and only when under heavy load. Gassin on it. Sounds damn near like the rear is getting ready to hand grenade. Takin it in to see what we can see. Def not normal for a ride w/ 7k miles.
