OK guys and Gals.
I have a 96 Lincon Mark VIII parts car that I just bought. It has a 8.8 IRS in the rear.
I have swapped a 8.8 IRS before, from a 2003 Cobra to a 2004 GT with No issues.
MY QUESTION:
Does anyone know if the Mark VIII I.R.S. will bolt into a FoxBody Mustang?

Theoretically it will, but the demensions are diffecnt then the cobra rear, there will be a lot of changes that will need to be made. You will be better off just finding cobra set-up.

Just a question, if you drag race why would you want to go to an IRS setup ?? If you auto cross, then IRS is the way to go .....

I can't say how the swap from a mk8 will go, but I recently installed an 03 cobra IRS into my 86 coupe and it was very simple to install. It bolts right to the body with minimal modifications. I just put about 3000miles on the car in the last week and a half going on the hot rod power tour and it performed beautifully. Handling was dramaticly improved and ride quality was a hell of alot better than before.

best of luck with the swap, love to hear another opinion on how much better/worse the IRS is in a fox for various applications. Please keep us updated. :mick:

Like I've said before, if the car is used for drag racing, don't do the swap, but if your looking for ride quality and handling the do it. It can be used for drag racing with some mosifications but I would stay with a solid axle myself.

if I had the time and moeny I would swap it.. I'd rather go around twisties then in a straight line.
There was a link on FEP that had someone swapping the 8.8 for and IRS in a fox, it looked pretty simple.

from what I hear, it is pretty simple with some minor modifications ... can be done in a weekend ...
