It's time to change the oil. And, with a 2000+ mile trip just ahead of me I was wondering about getting the engine flushed before putting in new oil. (car's got 64k miles and yes it's getting synthetic) I'm not talking about the crap you put in yourself. I mean the machine they hook up at the shop and power flush it with. Does anyone know if it really does anything significant?

64k's not really a lot of miles by todays standards, my concern with engine flushes has always been that the solvent will eat away at any built up varnish and may cause leaks, but maybe Im just paranoid. If you have changed your oil regularly, I wouldnt imagine there is a lot of sludge to eat away or flush out for that matter.

That's just it. This is the first change since I've gotten the car and I can't guarantee the maintence. However, considering the previous owner (President of SA Corvette Club) and the condition the rest of the car is in, I'd have to say it's been taken well care of.

Thanks for the input.

I had a friend that worked for the solvent company as a salesman. He said that is pretty low miles for that. Also since its in such good shape you would be wasting money.

Anytime a "flush" of any type is done you might want to be present to make sure they even do it. Its common practice to say they did and never bother.

Now I highly recommend doing an injector cleaning. My old Cobra and Mach always ran so much better after they were cleaned.

I wouldn't get an engine flush with only 64,000 miles being on the car. Cleaning your injectors wouldn't be a bad thing though.
