I want to improve the GT a little, but don't have a big budget for it right now, and my lovely bride will not go for any major mods (it is, after all, her car) . I have been trying to do some research on tuners, something that will allow me to firm up the auto's sluggy shiftpoints, pull out a few more ponies, etc....
What kind of experience have you all had, and would you recommend a specific brand to get the best bang for the buck?
Thanks!!

honestly....you'll never do a better tune than a dyno tune where it's done specifically to yer car....but their are some hand helds out there that do work pretty good....SCT is one i can think of....also diablosport..

If you want to mess with it yourself you can get a tweecer or a P.M.S. system. They open up everything. But i have heard they are kinda hard to figure out. I am currently debating a tweecer or a murillo tune, but leaning towards the dyno tune

So what would a dyno tune cost? The car is stock....probably getting a K&N, but not much more than that in the foreseeable future.....

Ok, i think you are looking for something different than what im talking about. From what ive heard about mass produced "performance chips" they arent worth it. I think all they do is advance your timing a little bit and maybe mess with your fuel pressure. Probably minimal HP gains, hardly justifting the price. As for the tranny, put a shift kit into it, that should firm up the shifts.

To be honest just get an SCT XCAL 2 The hand held tuner. That way if you get any future mods... gears.. etc then you can adjust it yourself instead of gettin a chip at a peformance shop where youll have to go retune ur car once u get more mods. I believe the SCT's come w. 3 diff custom tunes . Heres a couple places you can get em at.

This is more what I was looking at, a handheld tuner that I can have improvements now and options in the future....Hadn't really looked at chips...and 450 for a one time tune just isn't worth it at this point....maybe down the road one day it might see more mods and then it might be worth it...i saw a guy on ebay selling xcal 2s with a custom tune based on what mods you have and settings you tell him you want. Any advice on something like this, or is it better to just get it and do it yourself?

without a doubt everything Murillo gets his hands on is gold but you gotta look at what mods this guys got.. the hand held would be great for right now. Then when you start lookin at heads, cams, blower, turbo, etc. then thats when id go see Murillo. :shane: Goodluck w. whatever you do though.
x-cal2 would be perfect for u

The xcal 2 sounds like what you need but buy it from a reputable shop, if for some reson the tunes are a little off you can get them to email you updates for the tune. If you get it off of ebay what you get is what you got. It has to come with the tune in it or it is not usable. All xcall dealers will send it with at least two or three tunes set to your mods and driving requirements. and usually one for premium gas that makes more diff that you would think in power. :shane:

Thanks for the inputs. I think I'm gonna go with the XCal 2 from lasotaracing.com....they give 3 tunes and year of emailed updates...

My two cents' input here, but I run the DS Predator, and I'm still learning it a bit. I did install the stock airbox tune for 93 Octane, and made some good power. Has a LOT of stuff you can modify on the tuning of the car that I'm not too familiar with yet, but I love it so far. Plus, I had a minor issue with the throttle recently(reverse light switch shorted out and restricted me to half throttle only...wierd stuff), and returned to stock tune and the mechanic couldn't tell the tune had been modified. Now, I also had the battery disconnected for about 20 minutes or so to check fuses/relays, too. Like I said, that's my two cents.
