View Full Version : What should I expect for this?

My 02 has a couple of rather large rock chips on the front of the hood. A couple almost the size of a dime. They have been "touched up" at some time in the past. There is also a small scratch in the driver door where an axle fell over and hit it, about 1/2 inch long. No metal damage, but paint knocked off down to the primer.
I want to get them fixed properly, but I don't want to get taken for a ride in the process.
My question is what all should I expect to be quoted for from a shop? Does the entire hood and door have to be repainted/recleared, or can these spots be blended after local repair?
Thanks,
Devin

You should talk to Darren (88GT) he might can help you.

Depends on a few things...
Is it a solid color? If its black by chance then blending adjacent panels wont be needed.
are the chips and scratches far enough away from adjacent panels to allow a blend within the panel?
If it was a tri stage and I'm sure it isnt, just what you described would mean that most likely from the right front fender to the left qtr panel would likely have to be painted.

Ok....it is a solid color, but it's white, not black. I know there are 29 shades of white, so that was what got me to wondering. The hood spots are far enough away that I believe they can be done alone. They are in the center of the hood, toward the front. The spot on the left door is below the door handle...if I remember correctly it is about 5-6 inches from the edge of the door.
I'm not sure exactly what tri stage is (three colors?), but I'm sure mine isn't. It's just a standard GT....
I'm gonna go get some estimates later this week, and will post back then...see if they are in line....will take a pic or two also....i'm kinda doing all this on the sly, don't want my sweetie to know until it's done...it's her car, and these little spots bother her, so i'm trying to make it a surprise :D

Imma guess $6-800. Spot paint, and clear each panel.
Tri stage is pretty common on Cadilacs and higher end cars (lexus, infinity etc.) base coat, mid coat and clear. Looks real nice but hard to match
Letuce know what you get for an estimate.

Ok....after I got off work this morning I went and got estimates....first one was for 950... :omg:
Next one, I went to a place that is generally heralded as the best in Tyler, but has been said by many to be expensive. Just wanted to see what I would get. I strongly suspect that what I got was the "I love Firemen" rate....$336. For the same work as the 950 quote. :blkvnm: :happydanc

Thats damn good. I would do it for $336 as a "your my good buddy" price, but normally about $400-$450
