it's time I get off my ass and start buying more parts for my car.. it's header time. question is, which one?

I want to go with kooks for fitment, and overall purpose for what I need.
this is the problem I'm having, I have some people are saying going with 1-3/4" tubes to a 3" collector and others saying 1-5/8" to 3" collector. now, based on my experience, 1-3/4" is to big for my setup, and would kill the bottom end torque. Now both parties where I'm getting my info from are VERY experienced, but I'm not new to cars so i have my knowledge as well.

This is the combo:
302/306 9.5-1 compression (stock)
VERY ported gt-40p heads
edelbrock intake (victor I think, I forgot off hand, will update it)
holly 750 dp
and a NOS fogger system (probably 150 shot)

what do you all think? Also keep in mind, this is a street strip car, and I will be running an evac system so i need long tubes.

You'll benifit from the larger 1 3/4 when your on the spray but it won't be enough to justify the torque loss when your not on it. I'd go woth the 1 5/8.

I dont think you would really benifit that much even on the nitrous from the larger header. It would slow down your exhaust flow to much. You just wanna get it out quick and smooth which means no big steps in size. So 1 5/8" i would say. What kind are you looking at? Or are you getting custom ones?

I'm looking at getting kooks headers.. and they are pricey.. didn't want to buy them only to kill my motor.

Im running full length Hooker Super Comp headers on my 347 stroker and they get the job doen pretty well. It has 1 3/5" or so primary tubes into a 3 inch collector. It works good and sound great.

well when I blow this motor ( and I will blow it up) I'm dumping a 331/347 in, but since I'm looking at now, I don't want to dump all that money into a header that's going to defeat the purpose of put this motor in my car. if I had a 347 to start with, then no questions about the tube size.

1 5/8" is what i would go with .. you dont need the big header unless you are cranking out like 700 hp to the wheels .... IMO

That's what I'm leaning towards..

Either way that intake is already hurtin your low end. If I were you id go with a 1 3/4 hedder for when you step it up on the bottum end. When you make a big purchase like this think about where you are goin with the car.

Also what tranny are you runnin? If its a 5speed then why are you worried about the low end grunt? You control all that at your feet. If your runnin an auto then your gonna need a little stall speed in the converter anyhow. Then, what gear do you have? If your runnin a 3.73, 4.10 or a 4.30 gear like many others, then you wont see much low end rpm.

All in all I would go with the 1 3/4.

I forgot to check the intake today.. I'll check it tomorrow.

it's a 5spd car for now, depending what times I put down, it may or may not stay that way. and I have 373's.
