I guess the 1st question should be what are you wanting to do 1st? Appearance, Performance, or Handling?
Dont know much about the 05 + but gears is never a bad start.

subframes? lol Darren you crack me up
600.00....hmm....I'd have to say mid pipe + cat back....you won't money left after that...
You have to have the SOUND...stock setups are a waste (imo) AND with the sound comes HP.....gears won't give you either...

So far I have spent about that much on my Wifes car and it hit 302hp to the wheels on 87 octane gas going very fat at 5500 RPM's This is what we have.
BBK Twin 62MM TB
BBK CAI
Flowmaster American Thunder Axle back System.

Mick, my man...The 05's have an excellent exhaust system. No HP gains on these cars from switching the axle-back. They would have to, like you said, go with an O/R H or X..but then, you'll only get about 6 to 8 HP. On the flip side...you're right...you just gotta have the sound. I went thru 5 different setups on my 05 trying to find the perfect sound.
The BEST bang for your performance buck is to grab a CAI and Tune from Bamachips or Brenspeed. They both sell them as a combo package. You'll get **proven** HP gains of 30-40 at the wheels. Also, you'll get improved throttle response to take care of the throttle lag.
After that...go for some gears. It won't raise your HP...but the 'Seat of the pants' gain is impressive.

I am still curious what kind of gains you'd get from a mid pipe and better cat back...

BBK is comming out with a new X pipe that is 2.75" pipe all the way back to the mufflers. Soon as it's avalable we are going to test it on Rachels car!! :woot:

If its an auto.gears are always the best bang for the buck. If its a standard..still important but I would do the CAI and tune. 04 and below I would have said mid and cat back-Shane
I would suggest the following:
JLT Cold Air Kit
SCT XCal2 or Diablosport Predator
You can get the above for around $579.99.
Then I would suggest:
Exhaust
Gears (3.73 or 4.10's)
Expect to pay between $550 - $800 depending on the exhaust you go with!

With the 05+ Stangs, the BEST bang for your buck is an intake and tune. That tune will free up a lot of hidden ponies...
My very first mod was a C&L Cold Air intake with a DiabloSport tuner. I never regretted it. Obviously I don't have it anymore because I have a new intake system (supercharger :woot:)

After labor and such be way over the end.
Go on ebay get a 50 dollar CAI Looks just like BBK's 200 dollar one LOL and get a Preditor Tuner while your at it.. 400 bucks.. that leaves you 150 for the gas you will use after you put it on :pianodan

By far one of the best first Mods one can do. Most bang for the buck, easy to install and noticeable increase in power.

Not sure if I already said this but do not get a cheap CAI that is "pretty" chrome and all. It's metal and takes in heat and would only hurt the outcome. You computer will retard timing due to heat and you loose HP/TQ. You need to look at the big picture and see what needs to be bought. Maybe a better question is " I have this car, what mods would you do and in what order? Then mod as funds allow. Alot as you know is opinion. So search through what everyone thinks, learn a good bit and proceed as you wish.
IMO..
1. CAI from either JLT or K&N. They are either plastic/rubber or PVC
2. Axleback-Catbacks roughly all give you about the same weight savings and HP/TQ gains. Sound is the biggest determination here. I love Borla Stingers..thats just me. Some are really loud and some are tame so find what suits you.
3. If you have an auto..OMG GEARS ARE SOOOO IMPORTANT. 4.10 gears are the best for a strip/street application. If your standard 3.73's are a good gear especially if you decide to get blown later.
4. Mid pipe-I hate offroad and will only go high flow catted. Many people love offroads but I find them a bit raspy for my taste. You usually gain in HP but loose in TQ with offroads. Both are rather small though. The more air in and the more air out the more HP/TQ. At some point though..you have to add more fuel to this process. When you get blown usually or crazy modded engine.
5. Throttle body/plenum(upper intake)-Only one way to go and that's a 75mm Accufab with Accufab plenum.
Now after all this you still DONT need a tuner. But..it should be your next mod. You can tune all these mods and get a LITTLE better performance but without it you are not hurting the car and your fuel system is still kepping up just fine. A tuner..will only do so much without a tuner(person, dyno shop) getting involved. This is so the shady tree mechanic doesnt have the capability to blow his motor.
Now when you want to get blown you will have to add the fuel system which means bigger pumps or boostapump along with a upgraded MAF or Diablo Mafia with bigger injectors. At this point..you will need a handheld tuner and dyno tune for sure. Air fuel ratio is crucial at this point. Now these are power mods so you can put in cosmetic mods like springs(handling mod also), rims, tires etc etc when you feel the need. Some people build power first, then handling or little this little that. Thats all up to you and your needs with the car. As I stated..its all my opinion and what I have dealt with. Other people have their own ideas. Hope this helped some-Shane
PS..Everything I mentioned above is for an 99-04 Mustang. I think everything in general still applies for the most part if not ignore that part.

well save yourselves the money and install yourself.
an exhaust upgrade is a must, whether it be an x-pipe or cat-back. IMO nothing better then a loud stang. then its a toss up after that. you either get a tuner pack, or gears and springs.
