I have a hood that was painted flat black over the factory clear. It was not sanded prior to painting, just sprayed with a can.
Is there a product out there that will effectively remove the flat paint without damaging the original? I would like to use the hood, but in the original color. For the purpose, it isn't worth my time and cost to sand it off and have it painted, but if there is a way I can clean off the flat and keep the original color then it would work.
that may eat through the old paint thought would it not ?

Nope. Spray can paint is 1 component, prolly enamel. Clear is 2 component. Catylized. It wont hurt the clear, as long as you don't let it sit on it excessively long. Wouldn't hurt to wash it well and wax after that.
ah yeah just read that too LMAO use thinner to remove like overspray and what not too if u have clear .. i dont sucks to be me

I wondered about that, but didn't know if it would affect the clear. I got a big can of mineral spirits in the shop, would it work the same? I'm off to read the label....
Thanks for the info!!
think so
i used to use mineral spirits rather than thinner but that was for cleaning skate bearings

The mineral spirits didn't have much effect. I'll have to get some laquer thinner and try it.....

Well..not sure about most of it..but when and if you get down to being almost done you can use clay bar to get some of it off-Shane
