That's happened to me on our 04. Just happened Monday but I have no idea why it does that. :dunno:
it started staying on all the time after my battery died on my one week ... so not sure if i shorted something when i charged it but still have no idea
My guess would be the switch that tells the light you released the brake. Sometimes it will stay on when brake fluid is low too.
but the ebrake is cable driven?

+1....check the brake fluid.

Maybe it's smarter then you think Paul!
well yeah will have to give u that .. it was smart enough to break down on me so i would get out of an almost 5 year relationship that should not have gone on that long ... so yeah i love my car even if she needs way to much TLC sometimes
brake and power stearing fluid are mostly the same thing right?

Ok there maybe it would be best if you take it to your local shop to have it cheaked. I know Pepboys does free brake inspections. And no Brake fluid and power steering fluid are very diffrent. :mick:

there is a parking brake cable switch just under you center consel some time if they get old they stick even thought the paking brake is not applied. take the center out and the switch is right next to the Ebrake handle

It's happened to mine before. You just need to adjust your e-brake cable.

No kidding. I mean !!!!! one is a hydraulic fluid and one is a synthetic oil. Good lord, dont put PS fluid in the brake fluid res.
no but really they are mostly the same thing right???
anyways u all where right ... dam my car being smart ... light is out now and i had almost no break fluid in there

See......she knows what she's doing! Glad to hear it's fixed Paul. And don't feel bad I know a lot of people that say you can switch brake fluid/tranny fluid in one of them, just don't remember which.
was mostly sure tranny was the loner ... thought it was power stearing and break that where the hydro fluids

Actually I think I've heard tranny in the power steering but not power steering in the tranny now that you mention it.
... light is out now and i had almost no break fluid in there
Replacing the fluid may have made the light go out but adding fluid did not fix the problem. If fluid is low, then it went somewhere. And that is a problem!!!

Uh Oh.......we better hurry with that mod day so we can get ya fixed then.
oh but speaking of that ....
i was checking fluids and break oil and power stearing all needed some so i do the power stearing and the break fluid
go into the car port and there was like a new thing of oil ... or so i thought ... it was new when i got it i know i had used a little but anyway ... got the funnel in there and start to pour slowly and what comes out of the oil jug ..... u would think oil right .... no it was fricking water .... i just about **** a brick ... i so was ready to kill someone but i am guessing the moron that did something that fricking stupid does not live here anymore but if i get motor lock or some crap like that i am tracking him down and he is paying for it to get fixed
i leak every fluid known to man from my car ... now ... never used to ... but soon as school is done will be replacing everything

OK brake fluid and power steering fluid ARE NOT INTERCHANGABLE.
DO NOT PUT tranny fluid in your brake master cylinder or you will most like die or at least wreck your car.
You can use tranny fluid in the power steering on older cars. Most newer cars require a strictky power steering fluid IE not reccomenneded to use trans fluid in the ps.
You also do not want to put PS fluid in your tranny as the additives are different it may work in a pinch but your trans may not last long.
So in short put ONLT DOT3 APPROVED brake fluid in your master cylinder
and put trans fluid in your trans and power steering fluid in the power steering pump
OMG I AM GANNA DIE .... LMAO what if i only used a little hehe? guess i should flush my break system sometime anyway but that will be a pain

I would do that and change the oil since you got water in it.
i never change my oil anymore i just change the filter .... it was burning bad now its just leaks out somewhere just drips a little when i drive the car hard

LOL My first stang (a '67 coupe) used to change it's own oil.
once every few weeks just add some ... but hopefully i will be able to start working on my new motor soon

So you seriously put tranny fluid in the master cylinder?
If so I would flush the system asap the rubber is not compatable with the chemicals in the fluid. I hope ypu were kidding.
no i put like maybe like 2-3 ounces of power stearing into master cyl
just enough to top it off to see if the light would go out

DUDE YOU NEED TO GET IT OUT ASAP
Drain and flush the system (with brake fluid only) and then refill it an re bleed all your brakes.
You can prolly suck the M/C out with a syringe or turkey baster if you havent driven it and refill it and be OK but i would reccomend that you do a flush and fill asap to be sure.

He aint joking bro. Brake failure for sure.

This was why I recomended you take it to someone to check it for ya. You have contaminated the brake system and will cause a major malfuntion if you keep driving the car with out flushing the brake system.
ok last thing i am saying but done after that ....
i have used brake fluid and power stearing fluid interchangably for years and so have my parents and there parents as well and it has never caused an issue
i had a car with a small leak in the brake system and used power stearing fluid with the stop leak stuff and it stoped the leak .... every car i have owned has been 90 and before
so i doubt highly that i have hurt anything so with that said
ty all for your consern and if something does happen i have already got your i told u so s
but ty all again for your input
ps if i did not say already my power stearing fluid that i used says dot 3 right on the bottle

It stopped the leak because PS fliud makes the rubber seals swell...and then deteriorate.
Good luck and drive carefully with no brakes!!!

The Wrong Fluids
Reader Question:
I accidentally put power steering fluid in where the brake fluid goes, what do I do now? My husband is furious!
Help,
Donna
Dear Donna,
Don't feel too bad, this happens more often than you think...you just happened to get caught!
Take the vehicle in to your mechanic and have them flush out the brake fluid system as best they can. Do this immediately! Chances are the damage has already been done, but time is of the essence. The power steering fluid will quickly cause the seals and rubber parts in the brake system to swell. Once these seals and rubber parts become swollen they will deteriorate and leak.
I have seen a few vehicles in my shop that were in the same situation as the one you are in, and we eventually replaced just about all the rubber components of the brake system, due to this swelling condition. As you can imagine, this repair job can become very costly, and can require multiple trips to the repair shop to correct the problem.

Yeah. I think mixing any fluids is a bad thing. especially now a days. There got to be 10 different ATF's out now. Seems every manufacturer requires their own specific fluids. Used to be you could use ATF in a PS system, but I don't do that anymore. But brakes!!! good gosh, that's one system where there should be absolutely no deviation. Someones gonna get killed doing that.

This is correct. brake fluid and tranny fluid WILL NOT REPEAT WILL NOT INTERCHANGE.
