Identify c4 tranny

hey dudes, how can i tell if the tranny thats in my mustang already is a c4 or c3 or whatever...its a 79 2.8L v6 (2800cc). im hoping whatever tranny is in there will bolt up to my 5 liter motor i have for it. thanx

IF you still have the data plate on the car, normally in the door jam, there is a transmission code on it. Do a web search for a mustang data plate decoder. Maybe you will get lucky.

The number of bolts on the pan should tell you. Can't remember how many on the C4 though.

11 pan bolts on a C4
13 on a C3
If the convertor is off
7 bolts hold the bell on a C4
8 bolts on a C3
I am doing this from memory so
I will not quarantee they are 100 %

Dont beleive it will I think the V6 has a smaller bellhousing diameter thean the V8

it's probably a c5, I have an 81 and it had an v6 with an auto, and I thought c4 jackpot and it's a c5.....
